"BUBBA and the X-Philes" (2006)

This is a re-colored version of the final cover art for "BUBBA the Redneck Werewolf" Super Sci-Fi Special which I did for Mitch Hyman ,the creator of the "southern fried werewolf".

This issue featured my first published writing gig and also my first job at illustrating "BUBBA" in a story. Needless to say, it's a milestone in my budding career.

Writer/Artist Mike Dolce (the Sire) did the original color work on the book that was released though Silent Devil Productions in February of 2006.

I re-colored the art for two reasons, one to use as an exercise for my Photoshop program, and two, to produce a limited edition print which is still available (see the art mart section of my site).

The story was only about twenty pages long and featured a bunch of horny little blue aliens out lookin for love in all the wrong places! In this case, it took the the form of BUBBA's girlfriend; Bobbi Jo Honeypants.

The cover art was a challenge in the sheer volume of aliens in the picture, all clamoring to get there little three digit paws on the luscious Bobbi-Jo. I stopped counting after the thirtieth alien.

I pay homage to pop culture and classic science fiction films with these little beings, complete with ray guns and anal probes.Plus, if you look closely at their outfits, you'll spot the starfleet insignias from "Star Trek". The addition of the Christmas tree lights was not to indicate the time of year, (it wasn't a Christmas story anyway) it's just my little take on how a typical "Redneck" may or may not decorate his/her home with the nearest handy light source. The scene takes place in BUBBA's house which is a converted old "Snack Shack" and projection house at an old abandoned drive in. This story also features a special guest appearance by two very familiar FBI agents whose interest in the paranormal has been well documented on television (and a movie).
