I created this piece solely because I was a fan of the characters and I wanted to do my rendition of them.
I remember their first appearance in the pages of "Spectacular Spider-Man" #64, way back in 1982 and then getting the limited series which focused on their origins.
"Cloak & Dagger" were created by writer Bill Mantlo and artist Rick Leonardi back in the 80's for Marvel Comics and were an instant hit with fans.
The story of two runaway teenagers subjected to tortuous chemical testing by a corrupt corporation interested me greatly, their resulting powers even moreso, two polar opposites; light(Dagger) and dark(Cloak) drawn together ,becoming in the end reluctant crime fighters pledged to help protect those who are downtrodden ,the forgotten ,the homeless, the destitute.
I originally planned this piece as an action pose, but after much thought and planning, decided on a more relaxed setting, with Cloak basking in the warm brilliance of his partner Dagger.
Dagger was originally training as a dancer,so I gave her a slim build to reflect this fact. Cloak, I made purposely taller and menacing even though he poses no threat to his partner.
I am currently coloring this piece, which is posing more of a challenge than I thought, especially with the glowing effects involving Dagger and her "Daggers of Light". I'll post it as soon as it's finished.
