REFLECTION

"REFLECTION" (2008)

Here is another piece that I was commissioned for, this time featuring one of the key female figures in the comics world..."Wonder Woman". This was done for a client's daughter who was a fan of the character and the scene was described in detail for me to illustrate and color.

Originally Wonder Woman was to face the mirror and gaze upon the image of her civilian guise, Diana Prince, but after I explained to the client that most of Wonder Woman's endearing features would not be seen we came to a compromise. The main description was in having Wonder Woman stand before a full length mirror and gazing upon the image of herself as Diana Prince...that was all.

After placing the main elements in the scene, it seemed a bit plain and boring so I added some additional "decoration" to more fully celebrate the history of the fabled Amazonian princess. Being a warrior goddess, I placed some battle armaments in the pic (helmet, shield & spear). I also added some pictures of friends and colleagues referring to her memberships to the JSA (Justice Society of America) and the JLA (Justice League of America). I also added the important figures of Superman, Batman, and Colonel Steve Trevor, all of whom she has had past romantic relationships with, and of course, a picture of her mother Queen Hippolyta.

If you look closely you will also notice a model of Wonder Woman's "invisible" plane, a stuffed Martian Manhunter doll, and in the background ,behind the mirror a small statue of a cat in reference to Wonder Woman's old arch nemesis...the "Cheetah".

Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston and she debuted in the pages of All Star Comics #8 (DC Comics) way back in 1941. Since then she has battled everything from the forces of the third Reich, to hostile aliens from outer space. She has also starred in her own cartoon series, a live action series in the 1970's (starring the captivating Lynda Carter) and is currently being developed into a feature film.
