"Vicky Van Gogh" (2006)

This is the final line art for my design for web hostess "Vicky Van Gogh" which by now you have no doubt encountered on the site.

I chose a female subject for the obvious reasons, to "sex up" the site and the fact that I enjoy rendering the female form whenever possible. I named her after one of my favorite artists, the Dutch impressionist Vincent VanGogh(1853-1890) who has been a key inspiration not only in my career, but for my life as well.

I positioned her so that it would appear as if you, the visitor, has inadvertently interrupted her as she was putting the finishing touches on the company logo.

This version of her is featured on the homepage of the site, the first time we are introduced to the character. I originally had her standing but chose to instead have her on her knees. This was a more challenging position, and to be honest a bit sexier.

The addition of her pet Dragon "Puff" was a last minute decision which I felt would add a more comic touch to her alluring nature, he also represents my studios, albeit a more cartoon versionof the company mascot. His presence is something that will react to her character throughout the site.

I would like to say that the character was modeled after a real person but I would be lying, her creation however is, in part, inspired by a close friend of mine named Kimberly. This partly explains the fiery red hair and pale complexion, which can be seen in the finalized colored versions featured throughout the pages of this site.

The character is also featured as a hostess on my sketchbooks, so in effect, she is sort of my un-official spokesma-er, spokeswoman for the Surface Art Studios.
