The Cleric

Despite the heavy armor and devastating weaponry, this character was described to me as a man of GOD!

"The CLERIC" (2003)

This is another character design commission that I created for a client who was involved in role playing games.

As with my art for "HOBBIT" that is also featured in my gallery, I was given a brief description of the character and of his abilities and background. The difference between this piece and similar subjects was the fact that the character was armored, which posed a challenge in itself. I didn't want to depend too much on real historical armor designs, for this character was based in fantasy, so I had the unenviable task of designing the armor as well. Armor is not something to take on lightly, especially when trying to render it in 2 diomensions. The design not only has to look believable in my opinion, but it must also look functional when adorning the subject (something that can look like it can actually protect the wearer).

The client specified that the armor was to be plated in parts on the suit, similar to Roman designs of the Empire, oddly enough he did not request any headgear for his character. His weapon of choice is the fixed Mace, to which I added a little gore... as well as some splatter on his armor. All this, together with the grim visage on his face, adds up to a long hard day at the office!

Despite the heavy armor and devastating weaponry, this character was described to me as a man of GOD; or to describe it more accurately, one of his footsoldiers. Other than some personal reservations that I had, in particular the armor, the client was quite pleased with the finished art, which resulted in an additional commission that I did for his wife.
