This illustration was for yet another convention poster, specifically the MegaCon 2005 convention that is held annually in Orlando ,Florida.
The MegaCon is my "home" convention, as I like to refer to it, because I been a resident of Orlando for the past TEN YEARS, or so.
As I often do with the convention posters I design, I try and center the subject(s) of the poster around the convention guests or theme.
Artists Bill Tucci(shi), and David Mack(kabuki) were among the many guests attending the 2005 MegaCon. Mack has also done work on Marvel's blind crimefighter Daredevil, so I thought it would be interesting to put the two together.
This is what I would call a "quickie" as far as my work is concerned, meaning that I didn't put much planning into it's composition and that it's rather generic in it's appearance.
I depicted the classic scarlet outfit that "DD" is wearing in homage to the late great Wally Wood who designed it.
The character of "SHI" -which is the Japanese word meaning Death- is aptly named, as I almost experienced a near death experience while drawing her. SHI was a nightmare! I usually enjoy rendering the female form, but this character's attire posed a rather formidable challenge with not only the texture of her outfit, but also the position that I have chosen to depict her in.
After finishing the picture I consulted SHI's creator, artist Bill Tucci, on how difficult it was to draw his character's outfit. He was really pleased of my rendition of his character and laughed off the subject of my difficulty saying;
"Hell I've been drawing her for over a decade and I'm still working out the kinks"!
